🥌 Welcome New Curlers!
Whether you’ve been curling for years or you’re figuring out which end of the broom to hold, welcome! We’re excited to have you join our club.
Curling is equal parts sport, strategy, and social time. You’ll come for the game… and stay for the laughs, the close shots, and the post-game storytelling.
📅 Season Overview
Our curling season runs November through March, with leagues, bonspiels, playoffs, and plenty of good times in between.
🏆 Annual Bonspiels
Mark your calendar! These are some of the highlights of our season:
Early November – Cindy McNeil Memorial Open Our kickoff event of the season — a fantastic way to start the year!
1st or 2nd week of February – Ladies Bonspiel A fun, competitive, and always memorable event.
End of February – Petroleum Club Rental Bonspiel A great event that brings extra energy, new curlers and lots of fresh faces to the club.
Late March – Closing Mixed Bonspiel Our season wrap-up event - equal parts curling and celebration!
Bonspiels are open to various skill levels and are one of the best ways to meet other members. If you’re new, don’t be shy - sign up!
🥌 League Play
All leagues run November through March.
At the beginning of the season, teams meet to decide how the league winner will be determined:
🗳️ Either by win/loss record
🏁 Or by playoffs starting toward the end of February
Need to change a game? Swap times? Find a spare? Just ask! No guarantees… but you never know. Curlers are the most friendly people you'll ever meet.
🍻 The Bar (Run by Members, For Members)
There is no dedicated bartender on league nights — our bar is proudly run by members.
Each week, one team is responsible for replenishing the bar. The team responsible is posted on the league schedule. Be sure to check when it’s your turn.
Bar duties include restocking beverages (coolers are in the bar storage room and someone can show you where the beer is), making sure the bar is tidy.
Need help using the Square machine? Just ask! Someone nearby will happily help you.
Want your favorite beverage stocked in the cooler? Leave a note by the till and we’ll do our best to make it happen.
This is a volunteer-run club, and everyone pitching in keeps things running smoothly. Think of it as team-building… with a fridge.
💎 Ladies League Fundraiser
Our Ladies League runs a weekly basket draw to raise funds for jewelry prizes at the Ladies Bonspiel. The team responsible for each week is posted on the schedule. Each team provides one basket during the season. Baskets are raffled off weekly to raise funds. There is paper and a basket available in the bar storage room for ticket sales. Yes, ticket buying can get competitive. It’s all part of the fun — and it helps make the bonspiel extra special!
🏢 Facility Rentals
Did you know our facility is available to rent? Perfect for corporate team-building, birthday parties, family gatherings, “we’ve always wanted to try curling” nights... Reach out for rental information and availability.
🧤 What Newcomers Should Know
1. Clean Shoes = Happy Ice: Please bring clean indoor shoes or curling shoes. Grit and salt are the natural enemies of good ice.
2. The Handshake Is Sacred: Before AND after every game, teams shake hands and wish each other “Good curling.” It’s tradition and yes, we mean it.
3. Strategy > Strength: This isn’t bowling. Power helps, but placement wins games.
4. Sweeping Is a Workout: If you thought curling wasn’t athletic… you’ll find out quickly.
5. Expect Good-Natured Trash Talk: If someone says, “Nice weight!” when your rock is clearly heavy… you’ll learn.
❄️ What to Bring
Clean indoor shoes (or curling shoes) Comfortable, flexible clothing A sense of humor Willingness to learn Optional: your best victory dance (use responsibly)
🥇 Playoffs & End of Season
Playoffs typically begin toward the end of February — unless the league votes at the beginning of the season to determine the winner by win/loss record.
We wrap up the year with our Closing Mixed Bonspiel and celebrate another great season on the ice.
